I have a doctor’s appointment on Thursday to discuss a blood test I had recently. While I’m there I’m going to ask for enough antibiotics to last until my next toe operation, because the stuff coming out from under my toenails smells suspiciously like rotting fruit (sweet but also kind of sour with a hint of bad egg) and I do NOT want a repeat of the last operation (my toes were so inflamed from infection that I needed about 6 times more anaesthetic than they usually inject).
Any idea what kind of bacteria thrives in an infected ingrown toenail and smells kind of sweet, sour and musty? Whatever it is, it’s bloody disgusting. It’s been going on so long mainly because most of the infection is under the toenail and the toenail needs to be removed so the infected areas can drain properly. I thought this would be sorted when I had pretty much half of each toenail removed, but apparently not.
